A deal involving veteran defenseman Justin Faulk has reportedly been reached, with the Detroit Red Wings set to acquire the right-shot blueliner from the St. Louis Blues ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
According to multiple reports released on Friday, a trade agreement has been put in place that would send Faulk to Detroit. Earlier in the day, the Red Wings had been widely identified as the leading candidate to land the veteran defenseman before reports surfaced indicating that he was set to be acquired.
If the move is finalized, a dependable, playoff-ready defenseman will have been added by Detroit’s front office at a crucial point in the season, as the Eastern Conference playoff race continues to tighten.
Strong season produced by Justin Faulk
During the current season in St. Louis, consistent production has been delivered by Faulk. A total of 11 goals and 21 assists has been recorded, giving him 32 points while more than 22 minutes of ice time per game has been averaged.
That level of performance has been particularly important given the workload carried by Moritz Seider on Detroit’s right side of the blue line. Additional support from Faulk is expected to ease some of that pressure while strengthening the defensive rotation.
