LaGuardia Plane Crash Kills 2 Pilots After Air Canada Flight Hits Emergency Vehicle

LaGuardia plane crash kills 2 pilots after Air Canada flight hits emergency vehicle in a devastating late-night collision.
The crash happened Sunday night at LaGuardia Airport in Queens.
Officials said the plane struck a Port Authority emergency truck on the runway.
The impact killed the pilot and co-pilot.
It also injured dozens of other people.
As a result, the airport shut down for much of the next day.
Now, federal investigators are working to find out what went wrong.

What Happened on the Runway

The collision happened shortly after 11:30 p.m.
An Air Canada Express flight was nearing the end of its landing.
At the same time, a Port Authority emergency vehicle was on the runway.
A source said both had clearance.
That detail now sits at the center of the investigation.
It also raises serious questions about communication and runway control.
So far, officials have not explained how the two crossed paths.

Pilots Killed and Dozens Hurt

The dead were the pilot and co-pilot of the plane.
Their deaths have shaken passengers and crews alike.
The truck carried two Port Authority officers.
Both officers suffered broken bones in the crash.
The plane had 72 passengers and four crew members on board.
In total, 41 people went to area hospitals.
That group included passengers, crew members, and rescue officers.

Airport Shutdown and Federal Response

After the crash, LaGuardia closed for much of the day.
Crews secured the area while investigators moved in.
Later, officials reopened one runway around 2 p.m.
Still, the shutdown caused major disruption.
The National Transportation Safety Board is now leading the investigation.
Officials will likely examine runway clearances very closely.
They will also review air traffic procedures and radio communication.

One passenger, Rebecca Liquori, later shared video from after the crash.
She called herself one of the lucky survivors.
Then, she spoke through tears about the pilots.
She said she felt heartbroken for their families.
At the same time, she expressed deep gratitude to them.
