Severe Weather Threat Returns Friday

Severe thunderstorms are expected to form in Oklahoma later today, with meteorologists indicating that the conditions are ripe for strong to severe thunderstorms to form in the state. A Marginal to Slight Severe Weather Risk has been issued for central and western Oklahoma, with an Enhanced risk for the eastern part of the state.

Oklahoma braces for second round of storms on Friday

Forecasters predict that these storms could bring wind gusts of up to 70 mph, hail the size of baseballs, and a medium-level tornado risk. These severe weather events are expected to begin after 2 PM this afternoon and could linger throughout the night.

The severe weather is expected to manifest along a dry line, where unstable air, moisture from the Gulf, and strong wind shear are all coming together to create the perfect storm for severe thunderstorms.

Supercells and Tornado Risk Possible

Severe weather experts predict that isolated supercells could develop after 3 PM this afternoon, particularly in eastern Oklahoma.

Central and eastern parts of the state are at the highest risk of a tornado today. Large hail is also a possibility in these areas, especially as these severe weather systems intensify throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

Due to this increased risk, meteorologists have issued a Weather Warn Day throughout our viewing area. Residents are strongly encouraged to review their severe weather safety plans.

Additional Storms Expected in Southeastern Oklahoma

Southeastern Oklahoma is expected to receive additional showers and thunderstorms later tonight, especially as the cold front moves into the area. This area has been placed under a Marginal risk for severe weather by the Storm Prediction Center.

These storms could bring 60 mph wind gusts, quarter-sized hail, heavy rainfall, and a very low tornado risk.

Another round of severe weather could be expected in Oklahoma early next week, possibly Tuesday.
